Our Unsung Heroes: Meet Blitz Bazawule

Blitz Bazawule is a Ghanaian who doubles as a rapper and a film director at the same time. He is however famously known as film director.

He revealed via Twitter his debut work which he played a part in is set to be premiered on Oprah Winfrey’s Network.

He said, “2019 had many highlights but getting to direct the legendary Cicely Tyson on #CherishTheDay tops my list. Her grace and mastery of craft were awe-inspiring. Can’t wait for you all to see this beautiful anthology series by Feb 2020”.

He helped direct two episodes of the series. It must be noted that he is about becoming the first Ghanaian to have a project he played a part in been premiered on an international platform.

The series is set to premier on the Oprah Winfrey Network in February 2020. It highlights the ups and downs of a relationship between a single couple.

Blitz first made history when his famous film, ‘The Burial of Kojo,’ was featured on Netflix, thereby making him the first Ghanaian produced and directed film to be eligible for the 2020 Golden Globe Awards.

Every scene of that movie was shot exclusively in Ghana and included some Ghanaian film gaints like Ama K. Abebrese and Kwaku Obeng.
